A ready-made Tyvek pouch
Select a pouch format for the medical device you need to pack.
A pouch-sized pack
Use the dimensions of the device, its shape and its packing arrangement to select the pouch. Nominal pouch dimensions and usable packing space should be distinguished in the specification.
Tyvek material
The material grade and the rest of the pouch construction belong to the selected reference. A product photograph or the Tyvek name alone does not establish its exact grade, coating, film structure or thickness.
Match the size and closure to the device
Selecting the correct Tyvek pouch depends on instrument size, complexity, and sterilization method.
Room for the device and closure
Specify the required pouch dimensions and usable packing space. Allow for the device shape and the closure area rather than matching the device dimensions alone.
The right closing method
The supplied reference and its instructions should identify the closure method and any required equipment. Heat-sealable and self-seal descriptions must not be treated as interchangeable. Sealing settings and seal-acceptance criteria belong to the specified material and equipment combination.
Check the finished pouch and the process together
Use a sterilization method identified for the supplied pouch in its marking and applicable instructions. Confirm its suitability for the packaged device, closure and intended cycle. The Tyvek name alone does not establish compatibility of a finished pouch with every sterilizer or method.
Unused-pouch shelf life, storage conditions and the storage period of a processed pack are separate specifications. Use the limits and handling requirements documented for the finished packaging and the relevant procedure.
