Flat reels, gusseted reels or preformed pouches?
A sterilization reel is continuous material with factory-made side seals and open ends after cutting. The user selects the package length and seals both ends using suitable equipment. This format is useful when the instruments being packaged vary in length. Preformed pouches offer a different workflow when a defined pouch size fits the item.

Select the material for the specified sterilization process
Paper–film rolls and Tyvek® rolls are different material constructions. Choose paper–film models with the steam or ethylene oxide compatibility documented for your application. Do not substitute a paper-based reel for hydrogen peroxide sterilization packaging.
For selected low-temperature applications, explore our Tyvek sterilization rolls. Confirm the finished reel specification against the exact sterilizer and cycle. A material name alone does not demonstrate that every film, seal, indicator and package configuration is suitable for the process.
Define the reel specification before requesting a price
Specify reel width and length separately. Check whether the stated width is the external dimension or the usable internal space. For gusseted rolls, include the required fold or gusset dimensions and the size of the loaded item. Package depth also affects the closure area and loading configuration.
Agree the paper grade or Tyvek grade, film construction, printed indicator, peel requirements and box or carton presentation. If replacing an existing brand, a reference sample and its technical specification can help establish a comparable product. Available sizes and pack quantities should be confirmed for each model rather than assumed to apply across the range.
Sealing, indicators and traceability
Sterilization reel material requires a sealing process appropriate to its construction. Request the recommended sealing settings and instructions, then confirm the process with the equipment and packaging used in your facility. Keep identification and traceability requirements in the purchasing specification, including lot information and any required label languages.
Where process indicators are printed on the reel, their response identifies exposure to the stated process. It is one part of the monitoring workflow and does not establish sterility or remove the need for other required checks.
